Meet Karen

Karen Weckerly, Founder and CEO of Coroco Coffee Roaster Collective, had an unconventional path into coffee. Trained as a professional violinist, she spent years performing and teaching before discovering coffee roasting.

What started as curiosity quickly became something more. After the initial intimidation of industrial equipment faded, Karen realized roasting engages the same instincts as music—timing, rhythm, and precision. Like a musical phrase, roasting requires adding energy at the right moment to shape the outcome.

A longtime Sycamore resident of over 40 years, Karen brings a strong sense of community into everything she builds at Coroco.

Today, she is a certified Coffee Q Grader, bringing trained sensory expertise to every batch. She roasts on a Loring for its consistency and environmentally responsible design, serving both retail and wholesale customers. Her approach blends technical precision with creative intuition, focusing on clarity, balance, and highlighting the unique character of each coffee.

At Coroco, that philosophy shows up in every cup—thoughtfully crafted, consistent, and rooted in real human care.

From Karen

Great coffee should feel approachable—but still hold up to the highest standards.

Whether you’re just getting into coffee or you’ve been in the industry for years, there’s always something new to discover in the cup. That’s what I love about it.

At Coroco, we’re serious about quality, but never too serious to have a conversation. If you want to talk coffee—questions, ideas, or what you’re tasting—you’ll always find that here.
